No matter what product your company sells, or service your company offers graphics play an integral part of giving your brand a specific place in the market. Although there may be many businesses similar to yours, no one business is exactly the same and your graphics can set you apart from your competition.
As you probably already know, the most important graphic for every business is its logo. When you think of a major company like Apple you automatically imagine the silhouette of an apple with a bite taken out of it, and due to its success, that logo not only represents a computer company, but a dedication to quality. So what does your logo say about your company? My suggestion would be that your logo is not just a representation of what your company does, but how your clients feel when they think of your company. A logo can elicit an emotional response from the viewer. If they had a bad experience with a product or service then a logo can bring back memories of the experience(s). Likewise if a person likes your product or service, then your logo is a stamp of loyalty.
Now that you understand the importance of logos, you need to design one that is best for your company. To start, its important that whoever you have designing your logo knows as much about you and your company as they can. The more a designer knows about you and your company the more they can apply that knowledge to your designs. Second, it is important to make your logo practical. As with most things in life, keep it simple. Complex design is not always better design. In fact the most simple designs are usually the ones that last longer and people remember easier. Take for example the logo for LG electronics, upon glancing at it for the first time you see a smiling face, but a closer look reveals the letter L inside the letter G. Another example of simple logo design is the FedEx logo. It is just a simple type logo but between the E and the X is an arrow made with the negative space of the letters. So by simple type treatment LG was able to imply happiness and Fedex was able to imply forward thinking and consistency. Finally its important to know that with logos, you wont get it right the first time. remember your logo is like a tattoo for your company, if you decide on one its something you will have to live with for a long time and changing it down the road is going to cost you time and money. So its important to stay in communication with your designer throughout the whole process so that he or she knows what you like and do not like and eventually you will have a logo that you feel confident showing everyone.
